Curious about Active Allies?

  • Allyship is a practice of inclusion where — through listening, learning, and reflection on personal experiences and privileges — people actively support historically marginalized persons and communities in achieving their full potential

  • Participants earn up to 10 hours of verifiable professional development credits, including an hour of ethics discussion, which is an annual requirement for many professionals!

  • Our workplaces and professions are changing to welcome equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI). Do you understand your role in supporting EDI or Truth and Reconciliation? Active Allies do!

    Active Allies participants can:

    • articulate their motivation to support a variety of equity-deserving groups — including women, Indigenous peoples, radicalized persons, persons with disabilities, 2SLGBTQIA+ people and those at the intersections of these groups,

    • engage more frequently and confidently in workplace conversations around equity, diversity, and inclusion, and Truth and Reconciliation, and

    • develop and enhance a variety of essential allyship skills.

The Active Allies course was created as part of the 4-year Activating Allies research project.

  • During the 6-week Active Allies course, a cohort of participants progresses through 8 course modules and 1.5 hours of professionally produced video content. Because the Active Allies learning environment is online, people can join from across Canada.

With a total weekly commitment of 1.5 hours per week, learners will first complete 30 mins of guided learning through the Active Allies course online content. The online learning content establishes a common ground of knowledge and builds their confidence to engage in conversations about gender, race, and more. Then once a week, we will gather online for a 1-hour group discussion. Our facilitated group discussions are a safe place to deepen participant’s understanding and practice their allyship skills.

We are all at different places in our understanding but together we can all learn to be active allies.

  • Everyone! No matter where you are in your understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion, Active Allies will expand your awareness and support your development of new skills through our curated resources, self-reflection activities, and facilitated group discussions.

Because we value diversity, we welcome organizations to send a group of employees who represent a variety of genders, racial groups, abilities, leadership levels, sexual orientations, gender expressions, and so on.

  • The 2025 Active Allies cohorts will run:

    • January 6 - February 14

    • May 12 - June 20

    • October 6 - November 14
